fear of loosing.

Post by bandit » Sat Aug 11, 2012 5:25 pm

For who ever is burning, looting, and trying to scumkill my two realms... very mature. afriad of what i will do if and when i am able to get built?

if so that is fear. it keeps up im gone.

this game is about challenge, not a one sided victory.

I get that being scummed sucks, but threads saying "stop attacking me or I'll quit" never seem to do much. Especially as a few of the people playing don't even read the message boards.

While we'd all love for this game to be about honour and challenge, it never 'really' has been. Yes, there have been players that played according to a code, but they have never been in the majority. In the end, for a large group of players historic and current, the game has always been about winning.

In the end, the only way you're going to stop someone scumming you is to hold enough scum that they cant get you, destroy them so they can no longer hold enough scum to get through, or talk another player into destroying them, so they have something else to worry about.

i have roughly 51k acres on my human, and 45k on my gobbie

so i hold 35-50k scumm... and they are still getting in unseen. but f*ck it..

it gets to the point where i dont want to log in. im to the point where i cant ds the land to hit npcs... and the others ahead of me are 60+. so i cant do anything about it.

I think the main problem bandit is facing is that he doesn't know who is doing the scumming so therefore he doesn't have someone to target in retribution. What if there was a random chance, depending on the difference between scum strength of both the target and the attacker, that would allow a scum attack to be detected. Basically just bad luck on their part that would allow non-scummers a chance to give retribution.

Knowing who's scumming him wont really make that much difference, he's currently in a crappy position. It's a long way down the scrolls between him and the next lowest player, and a long way up to the next biggest.

If he's holding max scum, then it has to be a player hitting down who he probably wont be able to attack even if he finds out who it is. It sucks, and I can see where he's coming from, I just don't think a thread would actually make any difference.

I'm changing the amount of turns down-hitting costs next age, maybe that'll make some difference in that it'll cost more to scum down the ranks. I don't think screwing over scummers by adding a random element of being caught even when unseen is the answer though.

I 'could' add an option like this, but the negative is a HUGE negative and would basically risk ruining the idea of scum.

_________________

Scum Watch?

Costs 2 turns to set, either triggers once, or lasts a period like fog.

Increases the chance of learning who performed the scum action (even if unseen)

Only triggers on the really offensive scum actions e.g. burn temples, burn guildhalls, kill peasants, kill scum. Would not trigger on scout, loot, sab alliance, ambush caravans etc

positives, you'd possibly learn who burned or killed you.

negatives, makes unseen pre-war prep work risky, increasing the vulnerability of the scummer.

_________________

Maybe the scummer could have a counter 'misdirection' which he could throw up prior to those actions and bypass the chance of being seen by that option. Undoing the negative from a prep-work point of view, but increasing the cost of scum actions, and forcing them to not forget to set it each time.

Still not sure I like the idea though

I like that function. Most of the pre-war scumming activity for scummers that I recall from when I played was scouting anyways so I don't think it'll cause much trouble in that department. But thats my opinion and like my wife says, my opinion is not the only one.

I scouted ya a while back Bandit but didn't loot ya and certainly didn't burn ya. I'm reserving that for the 'quad' and Joe has formed but only when it calls for it, which isn't yet.

Not cool either way. No need for the top guys to hit down when there's NPC's to take the brunt of it.

I am a shameless looter, always have been, always will be.

Scumkill and burning, on the other hand, are acts of war. I am one of those minority of people with a code of ethics - you are safe from me (your money isn't!) until you make an offensive act that ISN'T a scout.

I have an idea who the culprit is, though. :)

And dear god, no. That kind of an ability would severely weaken scum - either doubling the cost to remain unseen, which is prudent in situations that are not even preburn related, though the guilds game is not here yet.

If they keep doing it to you, bandit, let me know and I will clue you in with a way to deal with it that THEY will not like :D

Kaz, I think the turns increase for downhitting should be sufficient. If you did want to give a little hint, I seem to recall that a few years ago, when a scum action was blocked by fog, it'd report the scum type, which would give a hint to possible scummers. I did kind of miss that "clue".

However, in the current games, I know who's scumming me--Bootsy or Aey in bloodbath and Mav in dom--they're the only possible people, seen or unseen ;).

Thanks for the cash joe, I'd burn you more thoroughly except I am saving those turns for frustrating sorc/scumkill thwarting attempts. Cuz I like pissing people off :D

Come get some Bandit, I want someone to kill off my Bloodbath doms so I can get back to mindless slaughter, ending with all ya'lls heads on pikes <3

I got you by about 160K acres, not 60K, and you'll need at least 120K+ to get in seen. Another 120K acres I mean, and even then you may still not get in seen. My networth is NOT inflated by cash :D

And if you meant get in by WAR with another 60K acres, very unlikely but you are welcome to try.

I'll even throw you a bone - if you try to take me out and fail,. anbd you are still under 200K acres, I will NOT retalliate.
