You know what cracks me up is that my old fashioned paper calendars ended on December 31 every year. I never assumed that meant the sky was falling or that Hallmark had apolalyptical information I was not privvy to.

WHY do some people assume both abot the Mayan's and their bloody calendar??

Not many know this but the hawaiians had a unbelievable grasp of the stars too......

So they understood stars. Big whoop. Anyone with the time to lay down and stare at them could do the same as they did. Especially considering they were not hunter gatherers and had perfected farming.

Tell me they found out how to make a cactus give out w wifi signal and I will be impressed. The ability to look up and carve stones that match what they saw is not even close to as fascinating as what Jezebel does on a daily basis observiving bugs. BUGS!!! The little Icky-ologist can tell if a whole eco system is thriving just by looking. And unless she isn't letting us in on it, thus far the bugs have been mum about the earth ending.

Guess you are right Sturm, fear and sex sells...(which incidentally explains some of the porn... errr... I mean stok portfolio figures... I have in my underwear...I mean desk... drawer).

Besides, I thought back on '95 they had declared the magical date to be 2050 and that it only meant that more spiritual forces would be found on earth? (read: magic)

On 2012 the only thing I shall be marvelling at is how my ass is migrating south and my breasts stopped watching me put on my make up and now watch me tie my shoes.

Their knowledge of the stars was only a point off than our government super computers of today........

A bigger question is how the ancients built pyramids? i believe the used small rocks and melted them down to make bigger rock blocks. My theory doesn't explain how they generated the heat to perform such a feat..........

I don't think they could have. The lumber needed for such a fire would not be there, and I don't think dung would get hot enough.

Tons of theories on it though. What I hate to see is how they make out like it was slaves who built them. That theory fails on SOOO many levels.

First, these were considered literally vehicles to elevate the Pharoah to godhood. NO ONE would trust a slave with that. Plus the workers were buried near the pyramids, something they would have never done with a slaves body. And then there are the min cities excavated near the pyramid sites showing the workers lived very well.

(OK, a point off, but does that say more about the Mayans or less about the computers?)

Others have theorized that aliens had some part in our ancient past, around 900 bc great monuments arose from the surface of the earth a surface previously unmolested . Me myself like to keep a open mind i can debate either for or against it. i know of many past evidence that we might of been visited before in our past, and maybe dare i say 'today'......

I think that whole notion is about as much quackery as Big Foot siring loe children on rednecks.

I comes from our complete hubris in believing that we who live in the 20th+century are somehow the only time in history that people have ever been truly intelligent. We assume aliens because we cannot accept the fact that people have always been at least as intelligent as they are now.

i like to keep a open mind.......

There's some strange things in our past like take for example to explorers found a burial site in south america and found dozens of small golden figurines. What's strange is some resembles modern day fighter jets. A company in England built slightly bigger models of the figerines and made remote control planes out of them that actually flew. Another mystery is where are the tools that made the different pyramids from around the world surely they would of survived, but wherre are they? Today it takes massive equipment to cut and move large stones like the stones in pyramids yet the best stone cutters of today can't match the precision the mayan displayed in their pyramids. The only thingt ever found as far at ancient tools was a granite drill bit found in the 1920's in a egyptian pyramid........

There's a lot i could ad from our past that possibly could lead to a extraterrestrial connection the stuff straight out of science fiction but i leave it at this and say it be sad to think where are the only intelligent life forms in the universe........

edit/let me go ahead and add that people of earth want answers that we can't answer today, but there's always tomorrow........

Why? Slavery was common back then. Much as it was in the USA about a century ago. Responsible or (intellectually) difficult work was done by the educated, and therefore relatively respected, slaves. Dangerous or physically hard/dangerous work was done by prisoners of war. Of course there was also the plebs who worked for their money, who must've had a part in the building. But to say slaves did not build them is pretty much as silly as saying aliens had part in it.

Actually, Nagas, as the man whose work I practically worship, Doctor Zahi Hawass, Secretary General, The Supreme Council of Antiquities agrees with me, *I* am sticking to my position. It is hardly as ridiculous as aliens. When you find me ONE member of the Council who shares that view I shall be too pleased to back down. Normally I respect your opinion because I likes ya, but that was an enormously ignorant thing to write (ignorant meaning not in posession of the facts NOT that you are stupid).

http://www.drhawass.com/blog/new-tombs- ... ders-found

I was fortunate enough in college to sit in on one of his lectures. I was completely in awe. Smart men are INCREDIBLY sexy.

And slaves were NOT respected then. No matter what Hollywood tells you. They were not considered people and would NOT have been buried near the pyramids. It would have been an affront to the gods. Nor would anyone have built a city for them, nor would they have had the money to buy from the merchants and prostitutes there if anyone HAD built it.

Slaves were indeed sacrifices during many building points of the pyramids, but to suggest that one be responsible for the building of the very device that would allow their Pharoah to become a god and protect them would have been heresy to the Egyptians.

Both Mayans and Ancient Egyptian kingdoms had slaves they were used for heavy labor in both cultures, the Mayan used them more prominantly as their hieroglyphics records show in sacrifices.

In the construction of the pyramids in Egypt, slaves were used as the haulers of the stone from the quarries further away to the pyramids, they worked hand in hand with miners and apprentice stone cutters, the master stone craftsmen were sent to the pyramids for stone finishing and placing.
Some slves/servants would be entombed with their masters upon death of said patron.

Mavvie:

For the Egyptians things may have been different. My knowledge of their society is limited to a few reads and my visit there (and tour guides aren't too reliable). I said what I said based on their contemporaries, the Greek (of whom I happen to know a lot more). They had quite a few slaves whom were respected and treated well. They had no rights worth mentioning, but that's a completely different discussion. The slaves actually ran the first banks. This be a interesting reads if you're interested:

Moses I. Finley:
Ancient Slavery and Modern Ideology (1980), Penguin
The Ancient Economy (1973; 1985) Hogarth Press

As for the pyramids, you are right about the tombs which were found close. It's highly unlikely that the bodies there are slaves. But that doesn't prove that there were no slaves working there at all. Let's assume for argument's sake that not a single slave was respected there. You'd have the core workers, all Egyptians. If they died, they got a tomb in the neighborhood. They made the inscriptions and graffiti saying they were proud to have worked there. Even then it would be quite useful to have a handful of lowlife slaves around to do any really dirty or dangerous work. If they died, you'd simply burn their bodies, or dump them in the sea. It's what I'd do.

However, pretty much all sources seem to agree with you, so I stand corrected. Probably, at least. there is also the fair chance that I am a sheer unrecognised genius whose train of logic will be worshipped for generations to come.

Yeah.

:P

lol

And i didn't expect this thread to go so far

Edit speaking of space men......

There's some talk buzzing around the internet at present that Wikileaks has got its hands on some UFO papers. It is known that they are preparing for a big upload of diplomatic papers detailing corruption at State and Corporate level - but there are suggestions that 'some' UFO papers are in there too.......

Like I say, it's just talk at present - but it wouldn't surprise me if disclosure were to be wrested from Govt in this fashion.........

---.Link<---

It is possible, but wikileaks will take a big risk of losing erm credibility.
Then again they have shown quite a few documents that many people trust.........

i say: Give it a shot wikileaks!

i'm eagerly anticipating the release of these files but a word of caution i feel has to be issued.........

The activity of US Ambassadors shows that these are indeed sensitive files. There is the real prospect of very damaging revelations. Now politically, when someone gets hurt at home there is a tendency to 'lash out' - either as a means of deflecting internal criticism or to stifle the protests of others (knock it off the front page) - With the planned military trials off the coast of NK this weekend my fear is we may just see an escalation of activity there to kill the wikileaks revelations........

Just how seriously damaging are these files? Serious enough that the British Government has just issued a 'D-Notice' which requests the media not to publish them. D-Notices are not 'routine' and even though they are a 'request' not to publish - anyone who does publish will incur the wrath of the Government. Ordinarily all D-notices are complied with - so will the British Press be gagged on this issue? It sure as hell will be interesting to see who breaks ranks and publishes - more so when you consider that the info will spill all over the internet when Wikileaks publishes.........

Which brings me to another point - if these files are so damaging - Obama has the constitutional right to switch the internet off (by using a little known law which has existed since the mid 1940's) - this is a real test of democracy and the freedoms we enjoy (or not)........

This could be a history making weekend.......

i was going to make a new thread on this but i thought it be fitting here.......

I have NO issues, btw, believing alien life forms exist. You would likely be amazed at the things I believe exist. But the one thing I believe in above all others is the intelligence and ingenuity of human beings to do things both amazing and horrid.

the rest I shall reply to tomorrow because it is almost 3 .am.
