Goldenrule Effects

Post by Jokingjoe » Sat Oct 04, 2014 7:28 pm

OKAY Nymph..this is the 2nd time this age you've dropped networth to declare on me. (Still a silly rule, Kaz) I don't like downhitting--seems too easy. However, in your case, I may have to adopt Seska's policy's of equal style of lameness when dealing with downhitters.

The 'Networth' check is there to remove confusion when people look at the scrolls, see a kingdom that has a greater rank, but cannot attack them because the land (something they couldn't see without a scout) was too low.

There were initially a lot of erroneous bug reports, so I tried swapping the ranks from networth to land allowing people to have an idea regarding whether a kingdom could be attacked or not. People didn't like that so much, so we reverted back to ranks based on networth, and I gave in and added greater networth as declaration option.

In the end, no matter what I do there is always going to be a way to get around the checks. They are not a fix-all against downhitting, as sandbagging shows, but that said, you can only sandbag your networth so far. But they at least help out somewhat.

I agree with Joe...honestly...I think that it should be 90% land and only that. Reason, it is too easy for me to ds my troops declare, hire more troops and as a 43k acre realm overwhelm a 27k acre realm.

That said, I will play within the limits of the game to try and win even if it is Lawful Evil.

You could simply request that I stop (but you have not requested that yet.)

While I can see what you're saying, I did after all originally design the system to be land only, but I'm not going to remove the networth check, simply because I added it in response to a lot of confusion that the previous version created.

I'm open to other ideas to reduce the ability to bypass the system though.

One idea would be to lock down the ability to declare war without at least 50% of your troop cap filled e.g. "My Lord, perhaps we should hire more troops before we declare war".
