Post The passage of time and lies. {closed}
{character history. Thread closed}

Most of her childhood had been spent in fear. She had very little to protect her from her father's bitterness and rage. Her maid told her that it was his way of showing his love. After all she was just a child and couldn't possibly understand the complexities of life. So what was a little white lie going to hurt?

As she grew older she couldn't help but think that it was a rather sick and twisted way to show love for a child. To beat a child and scream obscenities at them didn't seem very loving to her at all.

But she bore it. What else could she do? She shrugged off the lonelyness of being an only child. She shrugged off having no mother. She learned, did and went where she was told to. She behaved just so, to avoid her father's notice despite the fact that very little escaped his notice, especially his strange little daughter. How could such a child escape anyone's notice? With eyes that appeared strange and watery and wings. Her appearence was definatly the type to attract unwanted attention.

Minerva came to Amenthaties when she was about eleven years old. The old woman would prove to be her savior as the years went on. If she had never came to Amenthaties, Gem never would have reached adult hood due to her father's viscious temper.

The day the woman arrived to take charge of the girl's education, she came across the girl's father giving her one of his regular beatings. He was appearently angry over the villager's gossiping about her orgins and how she came about to have wings when neither parent had them. The girl was a constant sore spot for him. The old woman quickly put a stop to that and for reason unknown to any of the servants, the beatings ceased then. Perhaps the rumor that the old woman was a witch and would curse him with some sort of disfigurement or another kept him from touching his daughter.
