Post Lake of Age ***Invite Only***
Birds chirped in the early dawn light, flitting from tree to tree as the elven warband broke camp. The forest here was young, no more than a hundred years old but a sense of homecoming almost caused Karzyn to relax. It had been years now since the day that Narissa had turned her back upon Isonia, vowing vengence on those of Foret whom had murdered her mate, Lazaruss, and their newborn son. Darden's twisted hand changing her more than even she was willing to admit.

Setting out at a lope, the elves moved effortlessly through the forest. Their lilting voices hushed but even so the grizzled, snow-maned elf could hear the excitement within their tones. All had family that had been left behind. What awaited them in Narissa's homelands no one knew. It would have changed by now. Someone would have stepped forward to take over leadership. He had a inkling whom might have done so and hoped he was right. But those misgivings would not be laid to rest till the warband and Narissa arrived there.

ooc Continued on from the Demon's at Play thread.... eof ooc

The wind currents buffeted the dark-haired, winged elfess about until she finally got the hang of using the wings. It was an interesting sensation, flying, but not one that she truly cared for. Once assured that none from Tanarri's keep could possibly be anywhere near her, Narissa tucked the wings close, allowing her form to plumet towards the ground below.

Multitudes of colors assaulted her eyes along with the screaming of the wind as her form picked up speed. Continuing to fall in this manner, the dark-haired, winged elfess' wings didnt spread till the individual leaves of the trees below could be made out. Legs flipped forward at the sudden halt of motion, wings fully extended and full of air. Dampness streaked the dark-haired, winged elfess' face though a crooked smile curved her lips as she slowly descended the rest of the way to the ground.
*That was almost fun*

--------------------------------------------
The sensation of falling brought forth a burst of laughter from within the honey-brown-haired elven child which was cut off quickly when the outstretched arms of a honey-brown-haired human woman caught her.

"Again, Mama!"

A soft smile curved the honey-brown-haired human woman's lips bringing a full smile to Narissa's lips. "Alright, Rissa."

The sensation of being lifted brought forth another laugh from the honey-brown-haired elven child's lips, the honey-brown-haired human woman's arms supporting the child's form. But before the woman could toss the child up in the air a male's voice disturbed them.

"You spoil her, Wife."

The happy sensation within faded into feeling of dismay as the child's blue orbs fell upon the tall form of the sinewy, blond-haired elf. His bearing alone would alert any laying eyes upon him that he was lord of the keep, his clothes though would not. Clad in tailored leathers, the sinewy, blond-haired elf looked as if he was about to set out upon a patrol. A cloak was slung over one shoulder and pinned in place by a brooch with an acorn-sized piece of amber set within it. An ornate sword hung from his belt, drawing the eye away from the hilts of longknives sticking out of the sheaths strapped to either thigh. An amberset circlet of plain silver held the blond lengths back from Treid's face.

"She's only a child, Treid."

The honey-brown-haired woman set Narissa down, one hand remaining upon the child's shoulder as the woman's gaze met that of the sinewy, blond-haired elf's. Their gazes remained locked for a few moments before Treid's dropped to the honey-brown-haired elven child. Without glancing from the child, the elf spoke.

"Take the child to her lessons, Karzyn."

Stepping past the sinewy, blond-haired elf, a young, snow-maned elf strode towards Narissa, one hand extending upon nearing her. Silently, Narissa reached out to take the elf's hand. Nodding once, the young, snow-maned elf started down the hall, leaving behind the sinewy, blond-haired elf and the honey-brown-haired woman. The sinewy, blond-haired elf's words barely reaching Narissa's pointed ears.

"She inherits my lands, wife. You will not make her weak and unable to stand alone."

------------------------------------

Giving herself a shake, the dark-haired, winged elf's gaze shifted quickly about. Once assured none were near, the wings sucked inwards, disappearing into Narissa's back. Brow knitted, the lithe, dark-haired elfess slipped into the shelter of the woods.

Tall trees marked the old growth of woods, their branches straight and healthy, a sure sign that the twisted forest of Darden's lands had been left. Instead of a feeling of security, a sense of wariness descended upon the grizzled, snow-maned elf. Dardens within Isonia's lands. If discovered they would be met with swords out. The warband had shed any marked items that might betray them to outsiders but until the homeland was reached, Karyzn knew it would not relax.

It was impossible to hide their passing. Too many were in the warband and those mageborn were unfit for stealthly travel. Those were the ones that were most nervous in the group. Their gifts granted by Darden to cast magefire at those opposing them. Most of these had joined with them since Narissa's change and this going into Isonian lands without her leadership or the backing of their fellows had the mages jumpy.

*Before the new moon's cycle, Karzyn*

The grizzled, snow-maned elf dipped his chin faintly while keeping up a steady lope through the forest. *We have entered her lands, Narissa. Where are you?*

*Far but we will meet at the Lake of Age*

He felt the touch of her mind fade but her words brought no comfort. Narissa had always confided in him but something was different. Something he couldnt put his finger on and this displeased him greatly.

When Tanarri was making his way downt he hall to his room up in the top most part of the keep, one of the maids came dashing down throwing herself upon him. He wasn't in the right frame of mind to comprehend what was going on. He was thrown off balance falling back holding onto the maid. He had one to many drinks at the party. Upon focusing all he was nice plump breast before his eyes. He took this as some delight reaching up to grab them groggly. He had a chuckle going with a bright smile.

He didn't get far to playing when a slap came across his face. His head was tossed to one end facing the wall of the hallway. His eyes shot wide open with his mouth hanging open in absolute shock. He blinked a couple times to adjust to the blurrly vision he was having. He felt the weight of the lady rise off him and heard a good scorn.

Master Tanarri!!....why...you should be ashamed of your behavior. Never had I once know you to be like so. You've more manners than that. (A good kick to the ribs for assured comprehension) We've more pressing matters, keep yourself together. Now get up!

Jisel bent down to help Tanarri up to his feet who was at the moment on all fours keeled over holding his ribs moaning. For a young seemingly frail woman she had a tough spirit and had a punch to her. She was cute and he liked her entrusting the duty to care to his room with one other the head maiden of the house. Tanarri leaned on the wall taking a moment to catch his breath and gain his strength to walk on.

Ohhhh goooddd Jisel....didn't have to be so rough. I'm terribly sorry for what I did..... ehhh what was it that I did anyways. ohhh nevermind...lets just get to my room and you tell me what's so pressing than my obvious drunkeness. Heaven's sake have a little mercy for a swallowed fellow.

Boy if his words weren't ever slurred. They eased their way to his room with Jisel taking one side as a support. She settled him down at the foot of his bed. His head hung slumped but he lefted a leg for her to take his boots off. She had a nasty scorn on her face but lightened up some pulling one free then pulling other roughly where he flipped back completely on the bed. She went to the spa room where a hot spring water bath was, private for Tanarri giving a view of the range and the valley below. She thought it breath taking and had hopes to perhaps soak herself here once and a while but that was pending on the master. She didn't dare ask but perhaps now she had something for leverage to use. She picked up a bucket to get some hot spring water to wash down Tanarri but gasped just before dunking the water into the water. The water was red a little....faint but not as it should be. Most of the color washed away down the mountian. She opted not to touch the water and went back into the room. She found Tanarri naked standing before the spa door. His had a look as if to say...'Well hello there.' She just shook her head and ushered him into the room pointing to the water.

I found this.....its not natural of the water sir. I think it might be that intruder we had tonight while you were away.

Tanarri dipped his fingers in the water and tasted it. He could clearly taste blood. Upon the word intruder he turned to look up at her in a way to explain more clearly.

Me and Ms. Dashwood came up to drop off some fresh laundry for you in the morning and see to anything else. I came up first and stumbled upon someone sleeping in your bed with your clothes on. She was firey sir. Wings like a bat, she went out off the balcony and that was it. I checked over the room and found nothing else missing besides the pair of clothing she had on. She took you favorite blouse for outing I'm afraid.

I thought i smelled someone in the bed. Well this is blood....what's left that is. I'm in no shape to do anything till I've had my bath, which you know has healing properties. No bath one major hang over.

Heh.....anything you wish me to do then sir?

Have my clothes ready....i guess I'm not going to sleep just yet till i sort this trouble out.

With that, Tanarri splashed in. Normally you wouldn't bath in the hot spring after drinking. The already racing blood mixed the hot temperature gives you a heart attack. However, he wasn't quite human and this spring wasn't ordinary. Jisel bowed and left to do as told.

Light filtered through the canopy of leaves above, casting oddly shaped shadows on the forest floor below. Birds chirped and sung to each other while the sound of a woodpecker's *tap tap tap* added to the symphony of sounds of an undisturbed forest. For the first time in a long time, Narissa felt free. She had been loping steady through the forest since dawn. The sandals were annoying and not as quieting to her footfalls as she would like but better than running barefoot. She wasnt worried about any of those from Tanarri's keep following her as they would have to find where she landed before being able to track her. With Tanarri at the party, which would probably last for days or weeks, she doubted even his ability to pick up such a cold trail even if he felt so inclined.

The lithe, dark-haired elfess's form could be seen flittingly as she moved along the faint path. Not wearing her usual leathers, she wasnt able to blend in as thoroughly as she liked but with her senses expanded, there were none nearby that would view her. This part of Isonia's lands were not familiar to her but it was easy to know which direction to head due to the positioning of the sun during the brief glimpses that were gained when a clearing was reached.

Along with the other gifts that Darden had bestowed upon her to avenge her mate and child, Narissa found that she could go a long time without food or drink but the injuries received, the healing then the long run were creating a deep need for food. She had gained rest within the keep but not substance.

Pausing alongside a brook, the lithe, dark-haired elfess crouched down with one hand cupped to scoop water to her lips. Senses extended searchingly, knowing that some animal would have made its home nearby. Kicking off the sandals by the brook, the lithe, dark-haired elfess began to stalk slowly through the forest, her steps light and unheard as she placed them with care. Drawing close to a pair of hares, talons slide silently out the tips of her fingers. Upwind and close, Narissa waited as the pair of alert hares chewed at the food within their mouths. It was when they went for another mouthful that the lithe, dark-haired elfess pounced. Talons sinking into either hare as they both let out a death shriek.

It took but a moment to gut both animals and skin the fur from their bodies. Blood streaked the talons tipping both of Narissa's hands until she dug them into the dirt, burying the entrails. Picking up the carcasses and furs, the lithe, dark-haired elfess padded back through the forest towards the brook. Once there, both carcasses were washed in the clean waters then spitted on a stick. Narissa propped the spitted carcasses against a rock then went to gather sticks and small branches. She could eat them raw and had in the past but a strong preference for cooked meat was her want.

Starting a fire by old methods of rubbing sticks together was tedious but eventually the effort was rewarded with a puff of smoke. Once the fire was going, the lithe, dark-haired elfess retrieved the carcasses and propped them over the fire to cook. Narissa took advantage of the cooking hares to set to work on the sandals and furs. Guts and matter were sheared from the underside of the skins before they were placed close to the fire to dry. Narissa spent a few moments studying the sandals before just cutting the leather wrap around straps from them. Taking a hide in hand, Narissa cut small slits into the hide before weaving a strap through the slits. Repeating the process with the next hide as well. The soles of the sandals were tossed in the far side of the fire before Narissa turned the cooking carcasses over. Each hide was then wrapped around a foot and the pouchlike bootie was tied shut when the leather wrapping was pulled and tied. Though crude and unattractive, these booties would make her footsteps light and muffle sounds while keeping things from hurting her feet.

The lithe, dark-haired elfess looked over both carcasses and selected the one that appeared to be cooked. Talons slit pieces of meat off of it which were shoved hungrily into her mouth. Any viewing this elfess would probably think her primative as she ate ravenously with no regard to proper manners. The first carcass took little time to devour and the second was soon gone after that.

Sticks were thrown, along with the remains, back into the fire which was beginning to burn low. The lithe, dark-haired elfess walked the short distance to the brook to wash her hands and drink her fill. Narissa returned to the fire and waited for it to burn low, relaxing while the dinner was digested. Feeble light shone upon the campsite from the crescent moon above as the last of the embers faded, leaving burned bones and partial remains of the soles of the sandals. Once assured that the fire was out, the lithe, dark-haired elfess rose and brush herself off. A last look was cast about the site before she slipped silently back into the forest, heading deeper into Isonian lands.

The sun had set hours ago but still the grizzled, snow-maned elf lay awake upon his makeshift bed upon the ground. Senses were attuned to his surroundings, easily making out the footsteps of the sentries and the hushed whispers of the mages. Sleep should have claimed all but the sentries a long time ago but the mages, just like himself, were fretting over their current situation.

They had passed deep into Isonian land. Though still far from the lands of Narissa's father, the mages were growing more and more nervous. Karzyn was half tempted to send them back and knew they could travel easier without them. But that meant providing them an escort also. All these thoughts kept the grizzled, snow-maned elf awake. That and the worry about Narissa's whereabouts.

Gradually the voices faded and but for the footfalls of those relieving the current watch, the forest carried its normal night sounds. As these comforting sounds began to lull at Karzyn, his mind relaxed towards a dreamstate.

------------------------------------------

Fog drifted upon the ground conveying a dreamlike state to the predawn light. The young, snow-maned elf tugged his mane of hair into a ponytail, quickly securing it before dressing in the ceremonial robe. Runes lined the front of it from the collar to the hem but other than that the robe was of plain white silk. Soft slippers slide easily upon either foot and though he itched to add a swordbelt around his waist, Karzyn knew that this morning he could not.

A gong sounded in the distance as the young, snow-maned elf departed his bedchamber, joining others as the filed down the keep's hallways and out into the courtyard. Though mostly elves were dressed in the robes, here and there stood a human also dressed for the ceremony. This ceremony was a tradition of Treid's family and one not usually shared with any but for those people close to his arranged wife whom was of human blood. Resentment stirred briefly within the young, snow-maned elf. Not that humans would attend but that he could not carry a weapon to defend his charge, Narissa.

*The scene within the slumbering mind of the grizzled, snow-maned elf fuzzed, shifting rapidly*

Encircling the fog enshrouded lake stood elves, human intermingling here and there, all wearing a cermonial white silk robe. The only break in the circle led towards the keep. Standing on one side of the break stood Lord Treid and upon the other, Lady Sarasee. A sound of a gong disturbed the dawn air and not long after the form of the honey-brown-haired elfess could be made out coming down the path.

Braided with flowers and bits of vines, the honey-brown-haired elfess' hair was secured away from her face. The robe that hid her figure was of plain white silk, no runes adorned it. A feeling of pride went through Karzyn at how she carried herself. Not as a child that had just reached first rites but as a stately lady for whom this coming of age ceremony was being held for.

Karzyn's eyes remained fixed on Narissa, all else becoming blurred as she moved to the edge of the lake. It was when she dropped the robe and stood as she was born upon the lake's edge that he first felt the flush of realization that it was more than just a mentor's fondness he held for her. Runes were painted upon her form, trailing up well-formed calves and thighs. Along the toned span of her back and down the back of her arms. He couldnt see the front of her but knew that the runes were traced just the same across the front of the honey-brown-haired elfess as they were the back. A stab of jealous cut into Karzyn, knowing that those at a different point of the circle could see Narissa fully.

Wading out into the lake, the honey-brown-haired elfess ducked under the water, disappearing from sight. When she emerged, Narissa was a quarter distance out into the fog shrouded lake. In the middle of the lake, lost from view, was a small island. None but those of the family could get there as an ancient magic surrounded it. The steady beat of a drum arose, it's cadence comforting as those surrounding the lake crouched down to await the elfess' return. All knew this could be minutes or days depending on what trial awaited her.

A deep feeling of regret and worry kept Karzyn's eyes on the fog shrouded lake. In his mind, his words given to a gangly, honey-brown-haired elfess just a year ago surfacing.

"I am your warder, longtime friend of your father's, Narissa. Your protection, your commander. There can be nothing between us but deep friendship. I love you like a sister."

The crushed look of hurt that washed over the gangly, honey-brown-haired elfess' face had hurt him more than any word she could have said and it took every ounce to not go after her fleeing form.

*Fading into a blur of colors and conflicting emtions, the dream slide away from the grizzled, snow-maned elf's mind*

----------------------------------------

A crease dug deeply into Karzyn's features as he stirred in his sleep. Lips tugging down at both corners, the grizzled, snow-maned elf rolled over onto his side before settling deeper into sleep.

No life but that of the forest was seen throughout the day as the lithe, dark-haired elfess loped along the path. Deer were glimpsed in the distance but her hunger had slackened and she did not hunt them. She had taken to the trees earlier while in an older section of the woods. Enjoying the sense of freedom leaping from one branch to another. She could almost hear Karzyn's voice telling her to stop fooling around and get going. But she took her time to enjoy the sense of freedom and lack of responsibility.

The view of herself refected in the water of a small pond brought a chuckle forth. Sweat and dirt streaked her features. Hair had escaped the tight bonds of her ponytail and clung wetly to the sides of her hair. Sweat marked Tanarri's shirt and dirt clung to his pants that she wore. Narissa's lips quirked to one side and without regard to any whom might come across her, she stripped out of the items.

Though not deep, the water felt refreshing as she swam. Dirt and sweat washing free. The lithe, dark-haired elfess' fingers were wrinkled when she finally came back to the side of the pond, taking the clothes and washing them out before redressing, her form clearly showing as the baggy, wet clothes clung to her.

A quick glance at the sky showed that she had tallied well into the afternoon and that a storm was brewing on the horizon. After securing the wrappings back around her feet, the lithe, dark-haired elfess slipped into the woods, spending the rest of the day gathering items around a old, tall oak. Narissa worked on a making a shelter against the coming storm until it's rumbling sent animals scurrying for their homes.

Narissa ducked inside the makeshift shelter and started to spread out the gathered plant matter she meant to make for a bed. Layers of sticks and leaves atleast raised her above the ground so that she wouldnt wake in a puddle of mud come dawn. The lithe, dark-haired elfess curled upon one side, eyelids closing over the black orbs of her eyes.

It had been bound to happen and though expected it brought no pleasure to Karzyn. The grizzled, snow-maned elf stood over the bloodied corpse of an elf. Blood slowly oozed in the dirt, creating a dark blotch on the forest floor. Smoke still drifted up from a cloak that lay discarded behind him. The mage had realized at the last moment that his voiced disention and questioning of Karzyn's authority was not going to be taken.

Before his fellows could grasp what was coming, the elven longblade was free of the sheath that was strapped to the grizzled, snow-maned elf's thigh. The poorly gathered magefire had only enough power behind it to catch Karzyn's cloak on fire but it did not halt the blade from slicing through the mage's throat. Blood had sprayed those nearby as the body of the elf crumpled to the ground. Gasps mingled with the drawing of blades and those mages that had stood with the dead one now looked upon weapons pointed towards them.

Speaking in a low, dangerous tone, the grizzled, snow-maned elf regarded those mages closest to him.
"Speak against my orders and you -will- die. If you dont like my leadership, leave now. Any that dont leave by dawn but leave without speaking to me afterwards will be hunted down."

"Escorts?" Karzyn turned to regard the willowy, dark-haired elfess that spoke. She had been complaining almost daily about their whereabouts and he had little doubt that her favors had given the dead elf the confidence to go against Karzyn's orders. The grizzled, snow-maned elf did not speak until he stepped over the corpse, drawing closer to the willowy, dark-haired elfess. The tension and wariness in her eyes earned by the execution she had just witnessed.

"Take what you want from the dead one and escort yourself."

Speaking without looking back at those elves that held blades at ready, the grizzled, snow-maned elf wiped the blood from his blade. "Move out."

No remorse touched Karzyn as the warband set out upon the path, leaving the willowy, dark-haired elfess with three other mages and the corpse of her most recent lover. They had made it almost to the bend when the sound of running footsteps caused him to glance back. A nervous smile tugged at the shaven, rune-tattoed elf's lips as the mage quickly moved to walk with the few mages remaining within the warband. All the elf received in return was a faint nod from the grizzled, snow-maned elf before the warband continued through the forest.

Tanarri had spent near an hour and a half in the spring. When he was done he was a lot more sober and refreshed. Jisel had food brought up for him to eat. It gave him back energy and vitality needed for this...hunt. Jisel had his clothes ready for him after he finished eating. His attire was course and heavy. It was meant to sustain against wear and tear. The layers could be taken off if it got hot but it was good to keep him warm if the weather should turn undesirable. The terrain too in the mountain was unforgiving, the woods would get thicker and treacherous.

Tanarri strapped only one weapon, his sword. He never carried anything more than that, even to war. He walked out of his room onto the balcony. He stood by the railing and looked out. He sniffed the air, eyes tracing over the scenery before him. Selectively he chose the most probable path the intruder took. To the right would lead to the road. Going there would be dangerous, his men were patroling it. To the left was nothing but sheer cliffs and gorges. Going straight back over the mountain would just be altogether a death sentence. He didn't even dare to do that without a great deal of care and assistance.

Alright Jisel....I'll be off now. Have Tredron take charge of the keep in my absence. If I should not return in a weeks time....consider the worse. Get some rest now.

Jisel didn't expect hear the words "consider the worse". She was going to protest but Tanarri had already jumped over the rail. She ran to it to see him plummet to the jagged rocks. She gasped fearing he was going to hit it. Then suddenly two large black wings thrusted out gliding him right over the rocks. She gave a sigh of relief. Soon he was streaming over the tree line. From there Jisel turned in, closed the balcony window doors and retired for the evening.

The tree line was clear ahead but as you gradually look from straight out to straight down it becomes a blur to a rushing green river. With a slight adjustment of his wings Tanarri was jerked back to be lifted straight up where it appeared he was standing up and down. The wind carried him high but he held his course to be still in one spot. He hovered with the moon against his back, its glowing rays illuminating his outline. He scanned the area, drawing in the scent of the woods. He could smell something different but the identification wasn't clear. He figured the vicinity of the origin. He swooped down slowly as close as he figured. He had to climb his way down a tree to get to the soft ground. The strong aroma of pine and cedar filled the area. It almost made him lose focus what he was tracking.

Hitting the soft dirt and slowly treaded along sniffing the air. His eyes flared red changing the darkness to light. Color may be obscured but the scene was vivid. He found he was getting closer, he could tell that something dead was about and something burned. Searching about for a little bit he came across the remains of the camp fire. He crouched down by it sifting through it. The rotting remains of entrails was apparent. Rabbit fur was about. A person did this...the partial soles left of a sandle was his confirmation. He searched the area and found foot prints, it gave him a heading to follow. Running was too noisy would perhaps be slow. He came up into the air to fly a bit dodging the trees. It wasn't easy but picked up some time. He did clip a few branches and what not but not bad enough to spin out of control.

The sounds of an incoming storm was heard. The air got damper, moisture was felt, the woods grew still was life tucked itself away. He down upon his feet to recheck for tracks. He couldn't afford to fly anymore. He had to be level with the path. He cursed the moment and felt an anxiety grow in him. The rain would wash away the tracks and the sent of the person mixed with his own ordor would fade away. He ran now hard to cover as much ground as he could.

He couldn't fend off the inevitable. It finally began to rain. He looked up seeing the drops of rain find its way through the canopy. It wasn't light. It was heavy. Noooo.....not now. He scrapped up whatever was left of the trail and went blindly on. The scent faded like the dieing minutes of a man. The ground washed away. He ran and ran straight on till dispare finally was creeping into him. He had pressed on for hours at his point the rain was going on for a good hour. He found himself facing a pond soaked on the outside. He brought his cloak around him more huddling to himself. A forelorn face hung over him. He stared at the water's edge for a moment before turning about to walk a bit along it. His footsteps were masked with the trickles of rain, the pounding of the drops, and rushing of water. A silent dispare.

Going around a large tree he upon something unusual. The formations of a bush or any plant life didn't lay large leaved branches as so. He softly stepped around as more of it was revealed to him. The shapes and configurations were layed precisely. His curiousity growing. What was it? Then he thought he saw folded legs being so close he could smell the scent again. It was undoubtably his prey, hundled under a make shift shelter. He would receive an awaking surprise....he---

Tanarri stood still staring now at the figure only a few feet away. He was a she....his flaring eyes faded away taking in the true sight of her. She layed there presistene an undisturbed. The skin smooth and unweathered. An elf....Narissa. Slowly he down to crouch by her just outside her shelter. The streaks of rain water running down his face to drip off his cheek and chin. He brought his wings out, slowly they came together over him to form a canopy over his head and over his shelter. What little light was upon her face slowly was taken by the dark. The breezing wind ceased to wipe about their faces. It seemed still. He just sat there waiting and watching, the water from his hair flowing down his face still.

Though sleep had been long in coming, the steady beat of the rain gradually lulled Narissa to sleep well before the last of the light had faded. She had felt the forest with her senses before laying down and feeling nothing but animals, insects and birds for as far as her senses had stretched, Narissa had allowed herself to sleep fully. Something she hadnt truly done in a long time. Even when she was recovering from the time in the void, that was a sleep of recovery. Now she slept for rest and the peace it brought with it, both which reflected upon her features.

Running full tilt through the forest, the honey-brown-haired elfess startled a deer. When the deer took off, twisting in and out of the trees, Narissa followed, keeping pace a ways back before allowing the frightened animal to escape pursuit. She was almost home and though a berating would occur for going off on her own, she didnt care.

The trees started to have greater gaps between them and the hunting path she ran upon soon joined a well tended path. Sweat streaked Narissa's face and her chest heaved with each breath while she paused upon the path to catch her breath. Blue orbs shifted along the path, towards the keep but she was not ready to return quite yet so she turned her gaze the other way.

Leisurely, the honey-brown-haired elfess moved down the path which led to the edge of a lake before it forked to lead around the lake. A fog enshrouded the middle of the lake and Narissa stood at the fork, gaze upon the center. Nothing was visible but a sense of need to swim out to the middle was strong upon her. The scene around the lake was peaceful and quiet, only the gentle sounds of water heard.

Tomorrow was the ceremony and she knew that to go before it was her time would mean her father's displeasure. But the draw to go grew steadily stronger and the fog enshrouding the middle took on a purplish hue in the failing light.

-------------------------------------------

The lithe, dark-haired elfess' fingers twitched against the leafy bed she lay upon. Though clearly still asleep, the face that she dreamed was clear by the faint movements and shifting of her eyes under the cover of her eyelids.

-------------------------------------

The honey-brown-haired elfess took a single step forward, water swirling about her booted foot. The need to go to the middle warred with the knowledge that Treid would be angry. Adding further to the mix was the slight change in sound of the water. Almost as if it washed against something instead of lapping against the lake's edge. The purplish cast to the fog increased in an eye-catching manner and confusion started to cross Narissa's face. She shouldnt be here. It wasnt time. The honey-brown-haired elfess stepped back from the lake and felt something akin to sorrow sweeping forth from the center of the lake but the scene of the lake was already fading within her mind.

--------------------------------------------------

A crease marked the lithe, dark-haired elfess' brow and she shifted faintly before settling with the fingers of her left hand near one thigh where she usually wore a sheath but none was there at the current moment. Eyes stopped moving beneath her eyelids and her breathing steadied. She kept relaxed though she loosed her senses, gifts extending searchingly. They didnt have to extend far before she realized she wasnt alone and nor was the individual far from her. Nostrils flared faintly, not enough for many to notice unless they were watching closely, as she attempted to take in the scent .All she could smell was the scent of Tanarri, which made sense as she wore his clothes, her scent and that of rrain. His scent was stronger but with the rain and shelter she was in that was to be expected. *The shelter will block my movements somewhat but if I can knock them back, perhaps then I can get clear enough to take to wing* The lithe, dark-haired elfess' left ear tip twitched faintly as she lay still, feigning sleep.

Tanarri had been all to still and watching. He watched everything about her as she slept. He saw the way here eyes shifted under her eye lid as she was dreaming. He notice the twitch of her finger. He took note of how she fitted into his clothing. He saw clearly how they were dirty too yet she seemed clean. He didn't pick up that she might have bathed in the nearby pond. He kept rythm of her breathing. He had a long while to stare upon her and know everything there was of her features and movement. The slight changes wouldn't get by him, he was intent and keen upon her. Yet he never said anything nor shifted his own position. How long could he stay as a statue like so?

Her beat was now a little different. He couldn't tell exactly what she was phasing into now. She seemed rather still. Her eyes didn't shift as they would if she was dreaming. The long halting breaths steadied and flatten, it was more concentrated. Something about her was stirred. Quietly his voice called out...low and soft.

Wake up Narissa.

He only said it once, watching to see if she registered the words in herself. He didn't want to physically wake her. Patience is what he had. In time she will come out of it to see him there before her. Elf's needed no more than 4 hours of rest a day. Who knows just about how long she slept now.

Still considering what action to take, senses keen for any movement to alert her, Narissa was taken by surprised at the low tones of a familar voice.

"Wake up Narissa."

The black of her eyes became visible as they slid open just enough to allow her to see. She felt the crease cross her brow while both eyes opened fully. A male elf crouched before the opening of the small shelter she had made. Wings extended over his head but water dripped down him and around as the steady beat of the rain continued. *Surely I dream still because he shouldnt be here? Why isnt he at the party? More importantly, how did he find me?*

Without doing more than opening her eyes, the lithe, dark-haired elfess spoke simply.
"Tanarri."

Though it took effort to lay there as if he posed no threat to her, the lithe, dark-haired elfess remained laying down, one cheek pillowed upon her right arm. The only movement she made was that of her eyes as they made a quick assessment of what Tanarri wore.

Tanarri seemed to relax and slump down within himself when Narissa awoke. His heavy thick leather trench coat layed over his legs it slowly lifted in the front as he craddled back to sit on his rear. A little squishing sound could be heard as his weight went into the soft wet dirt. He now was sitting casually with his knees up and his arms resting straight out on top of them. The rain came down steadily but softly where light sprinkles tapped upon impact on his wings that he still had as a canopy. His eyes moved to hold a gaze with hers, it wouldn't be so hard for her to see his expression in the dark and where he was looking. Elves had exceptional eye sight and were near as good in the dark. He had to keep a low glow of red in his eyes where you could see where the whites of his eyes were.

This was good...she knew he was here. He half expected a sudden reaction of retalliation. Who wouldn't lash out at a person that just hovered over you when you slept. After a moments pause of not responding to his name being called a low chuckle came out that didn't disturb the tranquil night. His voice eased out to wisp barely across yearning to reach her ears.

Narissaaa....my intruder....hehe. I found you. Any other time you are so...weathered and harsh looking amongst others. But now I've seen the quelled and presistene serenity about you just as you slept. Hmmm.....

He waited now suspecting that she would explain herself or redraw to respond to anything he said. She might feel obligated to mention something of what she was doing since it was clear she wore his clothes. Now that she was awake Tanarri was curious what injury she had. If figured the blood in his spa was hers. It was until now that he saw her with no wings. He missed the most obvious thing. Were they ripped away and that being the cause of the bleeding? It would make sense about her traveling on foot.

Were you injured?

What an odd picture it would make to any that came across the scene. A winged male sitting in the mud with his wings forming a canopy overtop of him. Rain dripping down through the trees, the ground soft from it's caress. The male sat facing what appeared to be a bushy growth in the faint light of the night, muddled further by the rain. To any there, it would appear as if this winged elf spoke to a bush.

These thoughts filtered briefly through the lithe, dark-haired elfess' mind as Tanarri settled back in the mud. Those thoughts and the sound of the squishing of mud as Tanarri's rear end settled against the ground brought a faint quirking of Narissa's lips. Humor faded quickly as she regarded him. She could see the faint glow of red about his eyes and knew he was using his gifts. Wariness again shot through Narissa's form though but for a faint tensing of the muscles along the arm her head was cradled upon, nothing showed due to the solid blackness of her eyes.

A soft chuckle then his voice barely rose over the steady drip of rain and though it didnt carry far, she heard him. The tones of his voice almost seeming a caress mixed with humor, the combination catching her by surprise which was furthered by the words themself.

"Narissaaa....my intruder....hehe. I found you. Any other time you are so...weathered and harsh looking amongst others. But now I've seen the quelled and presistene serenity about you just as you slept. Hmmm..... "

Brief confusion and surprise flitted over her features while her exposed left eartip ticked a few times. But as quickly as the look crossed her face, it faded, leaving behind a calm, controlled expression. *Is he trying to through me off balance? He has to be toying with me. I -know- he went to that party. Eisheth must have sent him after me. How did I let this happen? Why didnt I sleep light and keep my gifts attuned to wake me? Why hadnt he stuck while I slept? Of course, he means to toy with me no doubt.*

Extending her senses, Narissa sought to find out if others were gathered nearby but still she felt nothing but the presence of animals and Tanarri. Attempting to keep almost a lazy demeanor, the lithe, dark-haired elfess stretched leisurely before propping herself up on her right elbow within the cramped confines of the shelter. The fingers of her left hand curled under against the leafy bedding, hiding the tips from view. All this just took seconds, the change of her position while her gaze never really left Tanarri. Once her fingertip on her left hand were hidden, slowly talons started to slide out of them.

"Were you injured?"

*What is he playing at? He almost sounds like he truly is concerned.* He had the tactical advantage. Her movement within the shelter was restricted while he was in the open outside of it. Though he was no longer crouched and ready to spring into motion. Deciding the best course of action was to see where all of this was leading, the lithe, dark-haired elfess spoke in a low tone, black gaze upon Tanarri.

"The pools you told me of work well, Tanarri. I have no injuries at the moment."

A long pause hung between them as both sat in regard of the other. She knew that he probably was waiting for her, in nervousness, to spill forth an explanation of why she was where she was. But more would be gained in seeing how he asked things than in her giving forth information randomly. It was odd, the situation, in that though she felt no immediate danger emitting from Tanarri she was at a great disadvantage if he chose to strike.

"I would invite you in out of the rain but I didnt build this shelter with two in mind. The span of your wings alone would put us both in the rain."

She almost hoped that he would crawl in there with her, drawing his wings back into himself. Only so that she had a greater advantage if the need arose. The confines of the shelter was small and there would be no choice but for them to lay practically in each other's arms. Though it would give her a better advantage in the situation the thought of Tanarri so close to her brought a mix of unexpected feelings. Tense and wary already, these feelings just intesified it all. She was hard pressed to keep the light, easy tone she had already spoke in, the talons on her left fingertips fully extended but hidden from view. Off balance and with a sudden feeling of being threatened, Narissa regarded Tanarri as she spoke.

"Surely these clothes I took did not hold such value to you that you came here, Tanarri. Did Eisheth send you?"

Tanarri was quite still where he was sitting listening to her talk. He gave a smile of satisfaction about the hot spring she complimented on. Of course they did....but since she said she had no injuries then where did her wings go...unless she could do them like he did. He gave a nod to his own assurance, something to find out soon enough.

I would invite you in out of the rain but I didnt build this shelter with two in mind. The span of your wings alone would put us both in the rain.

He looked up at his wings....they worked well keep the area dry. What he did do was scoot in closer half lifting himself up to waddle a few inches to her. He stopped in his tracks upon her last question which kind of seemed odd. He looked up with a 'huh' face.

What....Eisheth..her...(LOL) no no no.

He plunked himself right back down into the dirt chuckling to himself.

I dont know about you but I have nothing to do with her anymore or Demonic Reality for all that matters. I went to that party...and there before them all I said my peace and left. I came after you on my own. Afterall you were the one that broke into my house. I had to pursue the intruder.

His head tilted to one side to look at his clothes that he been looking at for some time already.

As for the clothes....you did take my favorite bloush shirt. But...itsss ookk. What in the world were you doing there anyways? You must have gotten bloodied up that I know for sure. What happen?

As Tanarri waddled a bit closer then plopped back down in the mud with almost a comical expression of confusion, Narissa's lips quirked despite her wariness. His words, and laughter they brought forth from him, confused the lithe, dark-haired elfess for a moment until he spoke next.

"I dont know about you but I have nothing to do with her anymore or Demonic Reality for all that matters. I went to that party...and there before them all I said my peace and left. I came after you on my own. Afterall you were the one that broke into my house. I had to pursue the intruder."

"As for the clothes....you did take my favorite bloush shirt. But...itsss ookk. What in the world were you doing there anyways? You must have gotten bloodied up that I know for sure. What happen?"

A feeling of shock and surprise went through Narissa. Lifting her left hand, talons easily viewed as they started to withdraw, the lithe, dark-haired elfess brushed some loose hair off her creasing brow. Her tone when she spoke still held some confusion and doubt in it.

"Eisheth didnt send you after me? You -left- Demonic Reality?"

It hadnt been the response she had expected. To hear him say he came after an intruder, the words seemed to ring true and she spoke without really giving him a chance to respond to her first two questions.

"I didnt break in. The doors were open."

Shifting her gaze briefly from Tanarri to the blouse she wore. Sweat stained it along with dirt from her run through the forest. "I will replace the shirt."

Lifting her black gaze to Tanarri's face, the lithe, dark-haired elfess regarded him a long moment, the silence stretching between them. She knew he was awaiting answers to his other questions and though she usually was stubborn in giving forth information, the revelation that he wasnt here to bring her back and the he too had left Demonic Reality had completely thrown her off balance.

"I had need of the springs you told me of and a place that I could safely heal. I knew you would be at the party and therefore, your rooms empty and the springs available."

Dropping her gaze to the leafy bedding she laid upon, Narissa flicked a small bug away that was crawling alongside her arm. When she spoke next her tone was low.

"As for how I was injured....lets just say Darden wished to remind me of my place. I assumed Eisheth sent you to drag me back after I .....departed the party."

Defiance flared across the lithe, dark-haired elfess' features as her gaze lifted back to Tanarri's face.

They had been challenged the day before by a check point and the vision still stood clear in Karzyn's mind. The path had widened into a full path and at the curve was a shelter with a group of elves stationed at it. This had felt odd to the grizzled, snow-maned elf as he would have never put such a viewable nor vulnerable check point up. But this wasnt his homelands.

The elves werent to blame though. Any would be smart to halt a large warband coming through their lands. But after much joking around and being able to drop Treid's name and the name of their homelands, the warband was back upon the move. A small tariff had been collected but it was of no consequence. Karzyn was glad that Narissa hadnt shown up then, though he had hoped daily she would. What was detaining her, he did not know and the moon was not even close to being full yet. At this point, she would not join till the last moment at the Lake of Age. Atleast this is what Karzyn suspected.

There had been no further desertion or dissention from the ranks. After the leaving of a few mages upon the path, none dared try the grizzled, snow-maned elf. It was a smart decision for he had meant what he said. No toleration would be shown. Especially once they had reached the lands of their birthing.

The long pause hung between Tanarri and Narissa as her words trailed off and thoughts began to drift through her mind. The training given to her since early childhood tugged at her, attempting to keep her focused as she waited upon Tanarri's response. Karzyn's form briefly appeared in the back of her mind which was quickly replaced by Lazaruss staring at her.

Part of her couldnt help but compare Tanarri's features to those of Lazaruss but not the one that had haunted her dreams of late but of the features of the past when they stood bound together at the wrist in their mating ceremony. They were nothing alike, this Tanarri and Lazaruss. But each unique in their own right.

These thoughts caused her some discomfort and guilt. Everything since Darden had tortured her seemed to be able to throw her off and she didnt like this feeling. Of not being in complete control. Of not being able to keep herself distant. Yet deep within, she was tired of being so completely alone and without support. She needed to get to the Lake of Age.

Tanarri still remain seated as he was. The only thing that moved was his fingers that just haphazardly waviered about. He gave a nod as he was pleased to hear that his spring was complimentory to Narissa's needs. But it was interesting to his ear to hear that Darden had some play with the inflictions she got. He could only wonder what it was the God did. That was something for her tell if she ever so chose to. But it seemed there was more going on by the mention of Eisheth. Sounded like she ran away. What was it that she did was doing that would make Darden harm her and have Eisheth wanting her sent back to her presence? His curiosity was sparked now. What is Narissa doing? He leaned forward to view her more deeply.

What is it that you are doing Narissa? Why would Eisheth have someone to bring you back? Darden......must have done something.

Tanarri was cool and silent, he seemed to be staring into her not at her.

When Tanarri leaned forward a bit to regard her, the lithe, dark-haired elfess tensed instinctively, the distracting thoughts slipping away as she refocused on the current situation.

"What is it that you are doing Narissa? Why would Eisheth have someone to bring you back? Darden......must have done something."

Different answers ran through her mind. Some vague, some blunt, some explaining the whole situation but it wasnt in Narissa's nature to just open up fully. There had never been anyone but her mother and Karzyn that she trusted fully to open up with. Lazaruss had earned that finally after years of knowing each other. When the lithe, dark-haired elfess spoke, the words were carefully chosen.

"I was....spit forth into the party after a...conference with Darden. Once I gathered my bearings, I then departed the party through a portal to your keep as I assumed you were on your way to the party and I had need of the springs you spoke of."

The lithe, dark-haired efless' black gaze remained steady upon Tanarri as she spoke.

"I have no intention of going back to Eisheth or DR."

Tanarri gauged Narissa to see if she was speaking with validity. All seemed true. He gave a slow nod and low 'hmmmm' escaping from him. He eased up resting back to his up right position.

Not going back to Eisheth is not going back to DR. Do you also mean that you are not going back to Darden too?

This may be a heavy question for her to answer. But he was curious. What was her course of action now? Maybe he should ask that instead of think it.

What is your course of action now Narissa? Where you going, what you going ot do? I'll be honest, since I never put myself to having tied with any god, I'm consider dirt among you believers. I'm a wondering bastard to say. The gods will favor the men I lead instead of granting me anything first. If there is scraps left then the gods may give me something for the service I do for the guild under that gods will. Anything and everything I have is done by my own hands. I'll die and remain in purgatory and will never rest in the halls of warriors for any god. That I will accept because I hope that I will be remembered.

My eyes look west. There's someone in Isonian lands that I'd like to see and that's where I'm going. This is my course of action now.

Tanarri's blunt questions werent exactly what she had expected but perhaps he had a right to ask. She had broken into his home, used his things and stolen his clothes. Though Narissa had kept her own counsel close over the years, she considered atleast giving him a straight answer. The only nagging thought was of whether he was here to trick her into saying she forsook Darden but Darden was well aware of Narissa's disdain of him.

A long moment passed after Tanarri's questions before the lithe, dark-haired elfess spoke.
"I owe no ... loyalty to any god. I made a bargain with Darden to...avenge a wrong. The lithe, dark-haired elfess' brow lowered in a dark line and when she spoke next it was without much emotion touching her lowered tones.

"Gods favor only those that lick the floor before them. Love one and one day when you need them most, they do use a hand to assist even their most faithful."

"Where am I going? To the lands of my birthing. It has been in my dreams of late........along with other things. This place I go to first to seek the answers I need."

She held back that she too was heading into Isonian lands though he probably knew that as they were already in Isonian lands. Narissa's black gazed remained on Tanarri as she studied him, awaiting his response to her words.

Deeper and deeper the warband pressed into Isonian lands. It was almost amazing, or fortunate, that they really hadnt been pressed for who they were. Various waypoints had been passed through and there had been questions but none that really poised a problem. Of course, growing up in these lands, Karzyn had alot of right answers for those that questioned them.

Worry about Narissa was held tight within the grizzled, snow-maned elf's mind. She hadnt made contact with him in almost a week now and they were within a week's travel of their homelands. This had been the longest the two had ever been separated and it made him edgy and uneasy.

The warband itself was in excellent shape. The physical run they had been on for over a week now had hardened a few that had grown lazy within Darden's realms. Even the mages were hardening up though he knew they really didnt wish to be anywhere near these lands as their powers came from Darden. But they made their choice and Karzyn meant to push on towards the Lake of Age regardless of their thoughts on the matter.

Tanarri still hadnt replied to her words. He just sat there, looking at her and though she tried to not fidget outwardly her left ear twitched a few times. His lingering silence was putting the lithe, dark-haired elfess on edge. Almost making her wish to spill forth an explanation but at the same time making her not wish to speak further on the matter.

The steady drip of rain was light, not the torential downpour that had soaked the lands earlier in the night. It was still night but dawn should arrive in a few hours. When it did, Narissa meant to depart. If Tanarri so chose to try and stop her, well then, she would deal with that when the time came.

Briefly Narissa's thoughts drifted towards the recent dreams of Lazaruss and her warder, Karzyn. It was an accepted fact that Karzyn would be in deep worry over her whereabouts but she wasnt ready to join them. She could easily, if she used the gifts Darden gave her but in defiance of them, she was wont to do so. Besides, she found the trek on foot to be more relaxing and therapedic to her soul. Snapping her attention back to the present, Narissa watched Tanarri closely.

Tanarri looked at Narissa easily. Hmmm the place of her birthing. Well explains some things as to why she's out here. So what was he to do. He wasn't sure he wanted to conclude the day and perhaps just never see her again. He yawns then stretches out his arms. His whole body arches, his wings expanding out exposing her to the open air. The rain ceased only the droplets of the water from the canopy above. As his yawn waned down his wings receeded to his back leaving him a simple man. Then he rolls out onto his back parallel with her with his hands behind his head.

I guess then I intruded upon your sleep for the journey. When do you leave?

Tanarri just stared up into the trees, then he turned his head to look at Narissa. She was pretty close in arms reach. She looked larger from his position. This was a different aspect to view her like so.
