Post Fact or Fiction, Man or Myth?
Rumor had it that something had awakened. Something vile, gruesome, and dark. Something which held no respect for human life. Something that hungered. A growing number of ravaged villages where not a soul was left alive gave no small credence to the "rumor". People across the countryside feared for their lives: images of mangled corpses quailed even the stoutest of heart. It was as if the dark creature was always watching, always waiting-- a man's hair stood on end and his skin crawled as if the malignant gaze was ever zeroed in on his back. The people feared that the demon had returned. Their fear was not misplaced. The demon had come back...back with a vengeance. Envious hatred and a long-harnessed rage twisted Taldric to the core. A dark shadow had fallen over the land, and it would not soon be lifted.

A humble inn sat on a hill. It's feeble light was smothered by the pitch black blanket of the night, leaving all about it in deep shadow. Through the soot streaked windows, a poor excuse for drunken revelry could be beheld. The stench of fear was rampant. Muted laughter,if any at all, was all that met the most boisterous of sea stories. Most of the tiny tavern's occupants were simple hunched over in their seats, nursing their drinks. All this changed when a pair of crimson eyes stared in through the building's swinging double doors. An elderly drunkard, well past inebriated, noticed the gleaming orbs and screamed in utter terror, throwing his ale to bang off the smoke-stained ceiling. The small crowd silenced, then, seeing the old man claw and flail at the rear wall, burst out in loud laughter. "...M-m-mmmmonster..D-d-demon," they chided, though a few snuck peaks towards the now empty doors.

"I think you've had enough to drink," the barkeep stated as he tried to calm the still shuddering man. The rest of the "revelers" continued to snicker, but the barkeep, seeing the look on the man's grizzled face, that of a horse about to bolt in abject terror, took one more look over at the inn's door. It was his last. With a shatter of glass, a lithe creature crashed through the window. Nearing the center of the room with his initial leap, Taldric impaled the barkeep with the razor sharp, rending claws of his hands, spraying the dazed onlookers in a mist of blood. A high pitched scream emitted from the old drunk, before he fainted- out cold on the floor. A whirlwind of gory vitae splashed about the room as the demon went about his work. Disembowel one here, behead one there, it didn't matter. They would all end up dead, some just took longer than others. The few lucky ones were dead before the demon decided to feast. As Taldric loped out the door, having temporarily sated his hunger, the old man on the floor began to stir.

Taldric's sight was hazed a constant red. His limbs thrummed with unknown power, but his mind was not his own. All he knew was the hunger, a hunger for death. He had roamed the countryside for weeks to bathe it in the blood of the innocent, but it was not enough. The lives were too few. He knew of only one place where gory vitae unceasingly flowed- he would have to return there and face Reality.

And so, he left the lands where he had awoken. Leaving a miasma of death to swirl in his wake, a trail that merely accentuated his need for blood, the demon flew across the lands of Tonan. He flew to a place that he remembered well, a place that he belonged.
